Howdy !!!

Welcome to the Lighting Department,
the bright spot on the Web....

The Lighting Department Head, also known as Al Williams, has more than fourteen years experience with concert lighting. He got his start with a band named WWIII (not the same WWIII Dio got his guitarist from- My WWIII guitarist was better....). After their untimely demise, he joined the staff of Houston's most respected nightclub, Cardi's (the REAL Cardi's. not the BS rave-haven place that sits in Backstage's former location), where he was the house lighting technician. While there, he worked with acts booked by Pace Concerts, including Megadeth, BTO, Uriah Heep, Helstar, Johnny Winter, Zebra, Alcatrazz, Dwight Yoakum, Black Flag, The Lords Of The New Church, Celtic Frost, and many others, including then-local bands Pantera and Lillian Axe. After Cardi's closed its doors, he hooked up with regional favorite Oz Knozz and their parent company, Amphion Sound and Light. When the opportunity came to tour nationally, the King took it, spending two years on the road with Wurx on their '87-'88 American Tour. While with them, he did concerts with bands like Nuclear Assault, Roxx Gang, Dirty Looks, TNT, Nitro, Zebra (again) and Accept. When the market dried up in with the Great Houston Economic Crash of the Late Eighties, the King moped around for a few years, languishing away doing menial day jobs.... He made his triumphant return in April of '95 with Tim Nichols and Common Cents, a country band, pictured below....

He has since parted company with them, going freelance to do concerts and corporate theater with artists like Petra, Doug Supernaw, Willie Nelson, Five Time Grammy Winner B.J. Thomas, Rickey Van Shelton, David Allan Coe, Clay Blaker, The Oak Ridge Boys, Gary Stewart, Lee Roy Parnell, Little Feat, Jimmie Dale Gilmore. The Isley Brothers, Lou Rawls, and Maze, featuring Frankie Beverly ... When he's not doing large shows, Al is the Assistant to the Theater Manager at the University Of Houston's
Moores Opera House.

The King recently toured America and Canada with

4ad recording artist Gusgus, with opening acts Lamb and Vuca.

This next photo is the only known full shot of the infamous, innovative Wurx show, taken August 6, 1988, at Backstage in Houston, Tx.
